Rio Tinto

Mine of Origin

An important goal for Rio Tinto Diamonds is to provide retailers with the assurance that there are no issues over the origin of its diamonds, or the quality of the mine that produced them. From mining to sales, each mine's production is kept separate in order to maintain the national identity of each mine. This allows us to specify the country and mine of origin when selling to our customers.

The Mine of Origin Mark signifies this assurance. We are piloting the Mark and based on the outcomes from the pilot, we may implement the Mark for all our production streams.

Integral to the Mark of Origin programme is the notion of a "Diamond with a Story", refering to the human, geological and cultural stories that form an intrinsic part of Rio Tinto's diamonds and can add meaning and significance to the end consumer's purchase.
